Hamomi

I visited a slum school in Nairobi, Africa. It was called Hamomi and it had 120 kids in it. When I walked in I was shocked to see how many needs Hamomi had. I immediately felt like I had to help the school.

The first classroom we went into was made out of mud, kids were sitting on the ground and their clothes were ripped. But they haven’t seen a different type of school so they don’t mind it. Some of the kids were even barefoot. There was this big steep dirt hill that lead up to the lunch area and the office from the classrooms. I can’t even imagine how we would get up the hill if it was raining because it would turn into mud. When we walked into some of the other class rooms there were two desks, but it was still really cramped.

When I first walked in there were so many needs to be done. Some of the kids needed shoes, the rooms needed to be bigger, and some of the rooms needed more desks. But when my dad asked them what they would spend the money on if we raised it for them, I was surprised to hear they would spend it on uniforms! I thought, well, what do I feel like when I wear my Blaine Tiger gear? I feel like I belong to the school. So that must be how the African children feel.

When me and Viv get home we were thinking we would make a sale so we could raise money for Hamomi. We would sell our Barbies, Little Pet Shops, and My Little Ponies. We would make a popsicle stand and lemonade stand. We would sell some stuffies and toys just for Hamomi. I look forward to raising money for the kids so they can get new uniforms.
